Genie laughed as he recalled that insanely drunken Halloween Eve. The party had been held the night before since Halloween fell on a Sunday that year, and nearly two hundred people had shown up to partake in the festivities. Of course it had been held at one of the kid's parents' house since that was the only way there would be a house large enough to accompany so many people. His name was Troy, and his parents were both doctors - having practically a mansion in the Green Island Hills subdivision. The driveway alone was probably a mile long, and the estate itself had probably 10 bedrooms all themed in different colors. She couldn't remember much of anything past that, but she had, in fact, consumed half a bottle of Fireball on top of however many Angry Orchards she consumed during the beer pong tournament. It was no wonder she passed out and wasn't able to wake up.
"Yeah, yeah. I had way too much to drink that night. I can't even remember it," she chuckled out, leaning back into the couch. "But thank you for staying with me that night and taking care of me the next morning. That was probably the worst hangover I've ever had." Her stomach churned just at the thought of how awful she had felt the majority of the next day, and she shook her head free of those memories. As he winked to her and called her dear, she punched him softly in the arm. "Oh, hush!"

He simply nodded at her as she thanked him while letting his thoughts draw back to that night. She had been pretty fucked up that night, and he remembered how strong that alcohol-smell covered her whole body. The party itself had been a bit out of control, and when he was offered several drinks at once, Gavin knew that at that point, he would have rather been alone then down in the basement 'living it up'. He had never really been much of a partier. Sure, a little social gathering here and there was fine, but a giant group of horny teenagers bumping and grinding against one another? No thanks. So, he had been fortunate to find her just a few minutes later in one of the various rooms, and barricaded them both in there. The rest of the night was fairly amusing, and frankly, he liked hearing Genie say that she loved him multiple times, even if she didn't mean it.
Gavin flinched slightly as she punched him, then chuckled a little, taking the time to peer around the house. "Nice place. Do you have any idea who...ya know, lived here before the turn?"

The more Genie thought about it, the more she began to wonder why nothing had ever happened between her and Gavin before the outbreak. They were practically glued to each other's hip half the time, they always confided in each other, and they constantly flirted with each other in a playful manner. Still, why hadn't that flirtation ever turned into anything more serious? She wasn't sure, but she figured he just wasn't interested in her. Gavin had always been a free spirit, and she had never seen him date a girl in his life unless she forced him to go on a double date with her and someone she dated. He was always there to pick up the pieces when she fell apart after a relationship, but he hadn't had to do that in a couple years now. Once college hit, she just focused on herself, and then she became pretty consumed with her job at the high school.
"A Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Turner," she said with a small frown, nodding her head towards the family portrait on the mantle. They had two sons, one who appeared to be about sixteen and the other thirteen. "I found a piece of mail with their names on it. It didn't feel right to take over someone's house without at least knowing their name."

His gaze followed her own, and he felt a scowl pull the corners of his lips downwards as he took in the picture in front of both of them. It was a middle-aged looking man, probably in his 40's or so, his wife, and then, his two boys. It was funny...the boys and the dad all had chesnut brown hair in the picture, but the mother, which shoulder length black hair, looked different than all of them. It was amusing, yet sad at the same time, and Gavin couldn't help wondering how many other families had been torn apart by the hell that now gripped the country.
"Hm," Was all that came out from his mouth. The last thing Gavin wanted to do was ruin the moment by bringing both their moods down, so, he quickly leaped to his feet and started towards the kitchen. "I'm starving. Got anything good?"
