Genie's sympathetic side began to shine through her features as she flashed the girl a look of sadness. It reminded her greatly of her now deceased parents. By the time Genie was able to get to their home, she was just in time to witness a walker sinking its teeth into her mother's neck. Luckily, her mother was eaten to the point of not turning into one of those monsters, but the bad side? Her father was the walker who was now eating the love of his life alive right before Genie's eyes. Her mother cried out to her before the light faded from her eyes, and her father then hungrily turned towards Genie once he got his fill from her mother. It was then that she had to man up and end her father's "existence." It haunted her every day, and she hadn't spoken a word about it since.
"I'm sorry to hear that. Things are insane right now," she said with a sigh before looking to Gavin with a raised brow. "Oh, sorry. Geography wasn't ever my best subject, so I thought Dublin was in Germany," she stated while laughing at her own idiocy, rubbing the back of her neck nervously.

Maddox willed herself to come back up from the pool or dark memories, and forced a sad smile before giggling slightly at the girls' comment about geography. Social studies or history had never been a strong part of hers. In fact, the only time she ever slept in school was during a history class. Somehow, she managed to get a passing grade, which was even more surprising. "No worries. Oh, and to answer your question, about 15 years. I learned how to shoot a bow at my old girl scout camp that I went to when I was a little girl, and have been sticking with it ever since. It sure has come in handy here within the past month," She replied, rolling her shoulders back as she situated the bow on her shoulder. "So, what are you two doing around here? Looking for food or something? That's what I was...erm," She motioned to the deer, "Doing."

Gavin's eyes widened in amazement towards the younger girls admission. 15 damn years? That was a long time to stick with archery...but hey she was pretty bloody impressive with that bow. Genie's comments about her lack of knowledge in geography was enough to get a few laughs out of him, and he shoved his hands into his pockets before sniggering a smart ass remark to her. He knew her well, and even though it would piss her off, he knew that she knew that he was only kidding. There was nothing wrong with a little teasing, even under the circumstances they were in.
As the girl named Maddox questioned their activities in the area, Gavin raised a brow, threw a brief glance at Genie, then shrugged. "Not a whole lot, really. I had spent the night lodged up into a tree, so my back is pretty sore. But," He paused, raising a finger, "I do have a shit ton of apples on me now. They're in my bag."

"Fifteen years, eh? Very nice," she praised the girl, giving her a nod of approval before shooting a narrowed gaze to Gavin for his remark. He always had to play the jokester role, didn't he? Still, she was more than relieved to have his comedic attitude in her life once again.
"Well, I had my sights set on that same deer," Genie laughed, pointing to the now deceased deer. Though she had no way of cooking the bloody thing, she figured she could manage something. Given that she preferred her meet rare anyway, it wouldn't be too hard to get it cooked to her liking anyway. With a small sigh, she let her shoulders sink in failure. "At least you two have been successful. I haven't found shit in twenty-four hours," she confessed. Genie had a complex with killing innocent animals as she tried desperately to hold onto her humanity, so the animals she had come into contact with got away without so much as her giving them a second glance. It just wasn't in her nature to kill something so innocent.
Just as she began to feel a sense of normalcy, three walkers emerged from the woods, making their way hungrily towards the trio. With wide eyes, her instincts kicked in, and she quickly retrieved her baseball bat from the Velcro holder she had attached to her backpack. "Shit, look out!" she shouted to the other two whose backs were turned towards the zombies that were quickly approaching. Acting quickly, she moved past them, giving a leg sweep to knock down two of the walkers while she managed to destroy the head of the third with one single swing.

Maddox nodded proudly to both of them, quickly looking down at her bow that hang loosely on her shoulder. It wasn't only her hobby, but a prized possession that would no doubt come into handy daily from now on. However, she did feel slightly bad about taking the deer the girl named Genie also had set her sights on, so she felt it necessary to share once able to carry the thing off to a nearby camp.
At the sound of Genie's warning, she whirled around on spot, swiftly pulled out her bow and a single arrow, and shot the snarling walker as it attempted to get up from the ground, only to sink back down a second later, completely and now totally dead. A muffled gunshot to her right revealed Gavin aiming a small pistol at the other walker, and Maddox smirked, instantly impressed by her peers obvious talent for not wasting a moment and killed the monsters on cue.
"Nice," She said, glancing between both of them. "You were both awesome."

Hearing Genie's scream of warning startled him, but Gavin instantly went into survival mode, quickly spinning around on his feet and pulled out a silver pistol he had kept in his nightstand. With one click, then two, the walker who had been determined to attack him stopped in its tracks, snarled, then fell rather violently to the ground. He stared at the thing silently for a few moments, then pocketed his gun, only to hear the comments of the girl standing next to him. Looking back up, Gavin smirked. "Hey, I try."

Genie panted a bit, thankful that the other two were quick enough to handle the remaining two walkers. Though she could have handled them, it would have caused her to exert more effort than was necessary. Turning to face her comrades, she nodded to them both in a silent "thank you." They needed to get out of there soon, especially after the loudness of the gunshot Gavin had let off. The walkers would be on them quicker than a fat kid on chocolate cake, and they were far too vulnerable out there in the open field.
"We need to move. They'll be on their way soon," she instructed before waving for them to follow her as she made her way down the road. She had set up a makeshift home in a now vacant house just a short distance up the road.

Maddox hurried over to the know slain walker on the ground and quickly yanked her arrow from its head. Once free, she shot glances at her new comrades, and smiled to herself. If they could handle their own, then there was no question that if they grouped up, they could help and protect each other, too. And, just maybe...that's what she needed. People to lean on, both when things were physically hard, and when things would get emotionally hard, which was obviously bound to happen. As Genie's words filled her ears, she quickly stuck the arrow back in her quill and hustled up to jog alongside both Genie and Gavin as they started down a street.
After a while, they all stopped in front of a somewhat still stable and put together house. As Genie walked towards the door, Gavin followed behind her, and Maddox trailed behind him. "Are you staying here right now?" She asked.

The three of them started down the residential street in silence, but Gavin had to hide the comforting and relieved smile that was pulling at the corners of his lips. This was a hell of a lot better than trying to survive on his own, and god knew it was multitudes better than fighting the zombies alone. Letting out a deep sigh, he flung his arm loosely around his old friend's shoulders. It was great to get to be around her again, and to know that she had been alright since the outbreak was reassuring. The girl knew what she was doing, and he'd be more than willing to back her up. As they stopped in front of one of the many houses of the neighborhood, he followed behind at Genie's heels.

Grayson stared at the walker in front of him, it's jaw hanging from a few threads of rotting flesh, the lifeless eyes staring into his, and a single arm outstretched towards him as it slowly marched forward. Her name in life, was Amy. She hadn't been friends with Grayson, but they were on the trip together when she'd been bitten and had run away - and now just under a month later he was staring at her again, jaw hanging open, and stumbling forward. "Amy," he choked out, fumbling for his gun, "A-Amy, this isn't you," he found it and pointed it in her direction, hand shaking as he started to back up. The corpse kept walking, a noise similar to gurgling resonating in its throat. He took a deep breath to calm himself, deep breaths do that right? - Snap. Bang. Amy fell to the ground, gunshot going straight through her skull and then sound still resonating in his ears. He jumped - he'd stepped on a stick and it'd spooked him enough to shoot - but the noise... He shoved the gun back into his bag and began his escape, running as fast as he could weaving through trees, panic in his eyes and burst out into a clearing. Three people stood not too far off sharing some kind of moment and Gray stopped. People? Real, live people? He swallowed, trying to follow their moments - they were talking, not coming after him, holy mother of god humans. He stumbled forward hands up in surrender in case they were hostile, and began to approach the triad slowly. "Please tell me you're real."

The exterior of the house seemed decent-but then again, so did all the others. Maddox had to remind herself that it had only been a month since the outbreak, yet somehow, it had seemed a hell of a lot longer than that. The nights were what killed her. It was when everything was dark and quiet...that's when her worries and thoughts would flood her mind like a tsunami. As Genie worked on the door, Gavin and her hung out on the porch. It was then when she noticed a boy, no older than her, walking towards them with his arms raised. She studied him cautiously, a hand absentmindedly sweeping to the side of her bow.
"Yes, we're real," She replied loudly, "And who are you?"

The house was a simple, middle class home with a yard that was obviously well pedicured at some point in time. Now, the grass had grown rambunctiously and there were a few vines that managed to creep up the sides of the house. Still, it had three decent sized bedrooms, a rather large living area, and a tidy kitchen. Genie had stumbled upon it a few days prior as she fled from a zombie while she tried to retriever her baseball bat from its strap on her backpack. After running up on the porch and granting herself enough time to get it ready, she prepared for the zombie's approach much like she would have a fast pitched softball. She gave a solid swing to its skull and cracked it open, watching the now immobilized undead cripple to a pile on the ground. She was a bit exhausted afterwards, and was more than relieved to find the door unlocked.
"Yeah, I've been here for a few days now. It's got three bedrooms, so you and Gavin can take the other two. The beds aren't half bad, and it beats sleeping in the dirt like I was before finding the place." She gave them a small smile before unlocking the door with the keys she had found inside, but she paused as the door flung open and she heard a fourth voice. She turned around to see a younger boy begin moving towards them - not even appearing to be of legal age yet.
"We're real, kid." She didn't want to stay outside much longer since the sun was beginning to set, so she quickly ushered the three others into the house once the stranger had made his way to the front porch. Once inside, she locked the door behind them and looked to the kid. "Look, if you need a group, you can stay. If you're going to cause any trouble, I'll allow you to leave with your life now." Her words were stern, though she could tell by the fear in the boy's eyes and his shaky legs that he was no threat to them.
She then turned to Gavin. "Well, mind sharing a room with me so he can have a place to sleep too?" After their many drunken adventures throughout high school and college, Genie had grown accustomed to sleeping with Gavin in rather odd places. He would always see to it that she was comfortable and that no creep managed to get his hands on her in her drunken state, and for that she greatly appreciated him. "This place still has running water for now, though I'm sure it won't last long. You two go get washed up," she said to the younger two, motioning to a door in the center of the hall and the one that led to her bedroom - the master bath lying within.

The new kid that Genie had invited into the house looked non-threatening, and frankly, scared out of his mind, so Gavin didn't feel the need to feel bothered by him. He had recently started to believe that everyone was worthy of a chance, and that was more than true to him now...especially in the world they lived in. It was the four of them now...and it was clear that was how it was gonna be. Sooner, rather than later, they would all have to sit down and really figure out what their next move was going to be. It was one that wasn't going to be easy...would they leave, or stay?
Clearing his throat, he turned to Genie and smile, listening to the fading footsteps of the two other kids. "I don't know, Gen," He teased, "Think you can still handle my little antics?"

The youngest members faded off down the hall eagerly. Showers were hard to come by nowadays, and Genie relished in the fact that this house still had running water. The electricity was already gone, but that was alright. She had managed to round up tons of candles and added them to the small collection already contained within the house. It wasn't her home before the initial outbreak, but it certainly felt like home to her now.
She couldn't help but to laugh lightly at his poking fun, but she quickly shut him up when she delivered a playful punch to his left shoulder. "Oh, hush! How many times have we shared a bed together now?" she asked with raised brows. She folded her arms across her chest and moved to enter the living room, plopping down on one of the large sofas. "Besides, the bed in the master is the biggest, and you're the only one I trust enough to have sleep that close to me."

He followed in behind her is they walked into the spacious living room, then plopped down on the worn sofa and sighed, spreading his arms out along the edges. "If I recall correctly," He started, "It's been a few times. Remember that party during Halloween a few years back? I can't remember the kid's name, but it was at his house, and I found you upstairs passed in some room. I couldn't wake you up, so I just decided to stay with you the whole night. That was one of them, and then..." He paused to think, "Uh, there was that other time...but yeah. For the most part, I'm trustworthy. You are safe with me, my dear." Gavin winked playfully.
